Building a better world

Meliopus aims to have a positive impact on both people and the environment. We do this thoughtfully through concrete actions and clear goals. In our ESG report, we explain the impact of these choices. Here are some highlights for you.

ESG Report 2024

Curious about our comprehensive sustainability report for 2024?

Environment

We don’t see sustainability as a buzzword but as pure logic and an essential part of our operations. That’s why we developed a clear roadmap with specific actions for the short, medium, and long term, primarily internally, but increasingly also at the project level for our clients. This translates into efficient, environmentally friendly work environments and processes for happy employees.

Our carbon footprint

In 2023, we emitted a total of 40,411 kg or 40.41 tons of CO2e. This is equivalent to cycling around the world 120 times on an electric bike.

In 2023, we did not achieve a reduction in our emissions. So why highlight this? The explanation is simple. Over the past year, Meliopus has grown significantly in terms of staff, and we also moved to our new, larger location. Despite this, we are doing everything we can to limit our emissions. That’s why our new office is equipped with:

  • A 100% green energy contract
  • A heat pump
  • Quality sun protection systems
  • A submetering system

Thanks to these measures and our additional focus on areas like our mobility policy, we did reduce our emissions per employee. This shows that our choices are indeed achieving their goals.

What is a submetering system?

A submetering system allows us to monitor when we consume more or less energy and where in our building this happens. These meters are linked to our data warehouse, enabling us to create efficiency models. What we learn from this, we aim to integrate at the project level to share our experience and knowledge with clients.

Mobility

Since 2022, we only purchase electric company vehicles. Currently, we still have 4 fuel-powered vehicles, but these will also be electrified as soon as they need replacing. This is the most sustainable choice.

Due to the electrification of our vehicle fleet, we still emitted about 35 tons of CO2e in 2023. This is still a lot, so we continue to raise awareness among our employees about their choices: charging at green charging stations, limiting their mileage, and choosing to cycle. In 2024, we will take it a step further by integrating a new policy that encourages employees to choose sustainable alternatives as much as possible.

Additionally, every year we aim to cover as many kilometers as possible by cycling, walking, or jogging. Through Go Forest, we plant trees as a result. In 2022, this amounted to 300 trees; in 2023, it was 1,006. Once again, proof that our approach works. We remain ambitious to do better every year and plant even more trees.
