Creative design-and-build project focused on people

After a previous collaboration with Orion Care Group to optimize one of their nursing homes, the organization once again turned to Meliopus for the integration of a day center within the same building. The goal: to provide warm, person-centered care in a homely atmosphere. This unique project highlights our strong, people-focused approach.

The client:

Orion Care Group supports individuals with care needs or questions regarding care and support services. The group operates in and around Turnhout and includes local service centers, a community center, assisted living residences, nursing homes, and a day care facility. Orion’s mission is to provide those in need with high-quality care under the best possible conditions.

The assignment:

At the Albert Van Dyck assisted living residences and service center, Orion Care Group wanted to introduce an additional service: a day care center where non-residential seniors can enjoy engaging activities in a homely atmosphere, guided by expert caregivers. However, there was no available space in the existing buildings, making an expansion necessary. Meliopus designed a creative concept that seamlessly integrates with the existing structure. We also took on the realization of the project, in collaboration with some trusted partners.

Our approach:

1) Housing study

Meliopus was already familiar with Orion Care Group’s vision and approach from a previous collaboration. In discussions with management and care staff, we established clear goals for the day care center and how to translate them into a realistic concept in terms of design, layout, and budget. We explored various options, including adding a chalet or converting office spaces.

2) Trusted design-and-build project

From the housing study, the new chalet concept emerged as the most favorable option. We developed this concept from start to finish in collaboration with trusted partners: from architectural design to landscaping, and from the execution of the structural work to interior design. No detail was overlooked—whether it was selecting the type of ceiling lighting or designing a small kitchen, the visitor experience was always at the forefront. This is the great advantage of a design-and-build project: with Meliopus involved at every stage and taking on the coordinating role, we kept the goal in sight at all times.

The result:

This collaboration is yet another testament to Meliopus’ people-centered approach. The outcome of this design-and-build project is truly successful. We creatively designed a realistic and budget-friendly concept and delivered it accurately and with high quality. For the execution of such projects, we rely on trusted partners who share the same mindset as Meliopus: doing to do it well. Because the well-being of the people who work, live, or reside in our designs always comes first.
